Brothers

An anecdote to throw in the memory bin marked 'random':

Standing around waiting in Monrovia's tiny international airport, a Pakistani UN guard walks up to me.

'You are Chinese?' he asked. 'I am Pakistani soldier. You are Chinese. Pakistan and China are brothers in Liberia. I take picture with you?'

'Sure!' I exclaimed.

A fellow soldier took the photograph and grinned widely. After about ten pictures with any combination of us, we waved goodbye.
